Ghost Town

 Dhanshukodi - Tamil Nadu

Dhanushkodi is a town at the south eastern tip of pamban island of the state Tamil Nadu in India its not just a town but its an abandon town. Dhanushkodi which literally means ‘’end of the bow’’.

Suited at confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian ocean 20km from south of temple town of Rameswaram till date its vast white sand beach can be reached only on rickety jeeps. Once accessible by railroad the super cyclone of 1964 turned this bustling port town into expanse of ruins , took away many lives overnight. All the remains of the station and rail tracks buried under the layer of sand.

Government , after analyzing the perilous  location of Dhanushkodi declared  an uninhabitable place. Hence the place got popular as the ghost town. Today apart from 50-60 odd fishermen and few local shopkeepers, nobody lives here.
But still it became a popular offbeat-destination for holiday.
