Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel , located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru,It is located in the Machipichu District . Its is also know as Stone city of Peru ,whole city is built with stones blocks .
Machu Picchu means “Old Mountain” in the native language of Peru, and was built as a fortress city for the aristocracy of Cuzco , the capital of the Inca empire .Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It is the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height; its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments.
Machu Picchu is the most economically important tourist attraction in Peru, bringing in visitors from around the world. To visit this ruins one should plan a day trip from Cuzco by first taking a narrow-gauge railway and then proceed to Urubamba River valley on a serpentine road. Smaller numbers of visitors arrive by hiking the Inca Trail.
