Blood Fall
Blood Fall
The uniquely beautiful frozen place almost covered entirely by snow and ice. Antarctica is most important continent in the world which
has valuable mineral resources, Though tourism in Antarctica known as Extreme tourism
and quite popular for adventure and adrenaline rush well its not same as normal
holiday but beyond that ,so let’s read something unusual about Antarctica.
Blood fall! the name itself sounds scary right? but the name came
from ruddy color, is not the fact that a gush blood from some unseen wound. Located
in Taylor Glacier in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valleys. When geologists first
discovered the frozen waterfall in 1911, they thought the red color came from
algae, but its true nature turned out to be much more spectacular.
The lake under the glacier has an unusually salty consistency, and
because saltwater has a lower freezing point than pure water and releases heat
as it freezes, it melts the ice, enabling the rivers to flow. This means that
the glacier can support flowing water and also that this is the coldest glacier
on Earth with constantly flowing water—though this water is so filled with iron
that it looks like something else entirely.
The study also measured the amount of iron-rich brine in the river water and found the brine content increased as the measurements drew closer to the falls.
Since 1995, the Taylor Valley has been opened for tourism and travelers have visited the region via helicopters. The tours are largely based on visual observation and photograph
